Safety Patrol

The School Safety Patrol program was started in 1946 by the California State Automobile Association to ensure the safe crossing of children to and from school.  The safety patrol program continues is a  vital part of promoting traffic safety around Scott Lane. The students in this program are actively involved in the control of the student body and traffic situations. 

Scott Lane's Safety Patrol is a select group of Fifth Graders that are committed to providing a safe school environment for all students at Scott Lane Elementary. They complete training in traffic safety with our . They protect students from the hazards of crossing crosswalks on campus, teach fellow students about traffic safety. 


A Safety Patrol member should be responsible, respectful, cooperative, and helpful. They should always model Scott Lane Values and follow our 3 Agreements. 

Duties Include:

  • Hallway monitoring
  • Assisting students as they exit cars during arrival time 
  • Helping students get to class or designated areas without running 
  • Assisting/working collaboratively with adults in assigned area (cafeteria, playground, kinder yard) 

Duties begin promptly at 8:10  and end at 8:30

  • You must must wear safety belt or hat while on duty 
  • Leave your backpack in the designated area 
  • Be sure all belts, signs and hats are stored properly at the end of duty each morning 
  • Please do not switch assignments without permission an always stay at your assigned post
